Dream On ✨

This week I’m sticking to my theme of women’s rights because it relates so perfectly to our #hergrowthcollective topic tonight: giving yourself permission to dream again.
Unexpected? Skeptical? Let me show you.
Political advocacy is ALL about dreaming. It’s rooted in a belief and a hope that things can improve. Without the dream, there would be zero reason to advocate. It’s tiring and thankless work most days. It’s fueled almost completely by dreams.
I suspect that is one of the reason so many people take the path of political apathy. It’s not because they don’t care, it’s not because they are lazy... it’s because they feel defeated. They have lost the will to dream. They feel shackled by the status quo and helpless to change things.
Do you remember how electrifying Obama’s campaign was? It’s because that campaign was fueled by hope. It gave people permission to dream again. Kamala’s VP nomination is doing the same thing now. After watching female candidates fail to really launch in the Democratic primary many of us felt defeated. We lost hope. Kamala’s presence on the ticket gives us permission to dream again.
Dreaming is the ultimate act of patriotism and citizenship. Believing that we can improve and grow as a nation... that we can become a more equal and just society... that’s a dream born in the stars ✨ and fueled by the heart. 💗
My dream is that women will embrace two phrases. The first you already know: “I’m an ambitious woman.”
The second is equally important: “I’m a political person.” Politics is where change is made to our laws and systems. It’s not the only way of making progress, but it’s an important one.
We can’t expect our workplaces to treat us as equals when our Constitution still doesn’t. The number of companies willing to pay women for equal work won’t reach a tipping point until they feel compelled by state and national laws. Women won’t reach CEO positions en mass while systems intentionally chose less qualified men over women.
Dream big for yourself and your ambitions. Dream big for your Country and our collective future.
And then remember - “a dream, without a plan, is a wish”. 😉
